"The Geometry
of the Vessel"
In August of 1999 I presented
a workshop at the Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Snowmass, Colorado. Students
worked for two weeks on a series of problems,
using both wheel and handbuilding methodologies. Dealing
with both functional and sculptural concerns, the students explored how
the relationship between simple geometric shapes (ie. the circle, square,
rectangle and triangle) have been used by potters of all cultures to create
structure in both the making of pottery and the decoration of surface.
